Sitting on a Curb, Watercolor, 15″ x 19″
I started the year painting this picture of me and my brothers again, this time for my mother. It is now hanging in her bedroom.

Sea Oats, watercolor, 5.5″ x 7.5″ Vacationing in Destin, Florida during October, this watercolor was chosen by my brother for use as his Christmas card. Thanks, Chuck!
Apple Pie, watercolor, 8.5″ x 10.5″ Thanksgiving dinner in November seems to call for several types of pies, one of which is usually apple.
A Light in the Darkness, watercolor, 8″ x 5″ December days are short, dark, and often cold here. A candle in the evening brings warmth and light to the room.

When traveling in Italy, I was impressed by the Italians’ love for flowers and making things beautiful. As with so many windows, this one was filled with blooming plants, and the window was open to allow the fresh air to cool the room. Open windows like this serve as an invitation to my imagination: Who lives here? What would it be like to visit? What are they eating for dinner? And I have found that most Italians are ready to open their hearts and homes to those they meet, especially if one takes the time to learn a little Italian!

This watercolor painting was inspired by a visit to Assisi, Italy. There was a convocation of Franciscan monks later that day, but during the morning one could see the monks exploring this beautiful hilltop town.
I took the reference picture looking through a barrel arch which formed the entry into this sunny alley.
