Spinnakers

When sailing downwind (i.e. with the wind coming from directly behind the boat), a light sail called a spinnaker is often deployed.  Spinnakers are often colorful, with stripes or geometric designs sewn out of different colored lightweight fabrics.  In our area, Wednesday night is a racing night, and the sight of many boats rounding a buoy and setting their spinnakers as they sail a leg of the course is a delight to those of us watching.
