Garden Candy

These tomatoes from Lothian Produce taste every bit as good as they look.  I love slicing into the meaty flesh and releasing the delicious smells.  When I put a slice onto a sandwich and bite into it, the juices run through the other ingredients and down onto my hand.  The aromatic basil from my garden complements the flavor of the tomato and adds some crunchy texture, so sometimes I’ll use it instead of lettuce.

Ooohhh – I can hardly wait for lunch!

      • I went for organic peanut butter instead. My favourite spread is manuka honey. I decided to save the tomato slices for a savoury, cheesy French toast for breakfast in the morning. Thanks for the inspiration. I’m looking forward to it. x

    • Sandra, your comment has made my day! As an artist, I don’t want to paint something that simply looks like what I am seeing, I want to make you, the viewer, experience it with me. If you can almost taste this delicious tomato, then I feel like I’ve accomplished what I set out to do!

  1. what a painting…wow…my mouth is salivating…you mastered the water in watercolor on this one! The natural imperfections in the basil and the highlights on the slices bring it to life….yes, I have lunch envy now.

  2. I love tomato and basil together. Sometimes I warm a small slice of tom and also warm the basil in the same butter, then break an egg over all and turn that into a sandwich center. 🙂

I'm interested in hearing what you think!
