We have several inches of snow on the ground and have been having very cold temperatures, which makes it easy to stay in the studio and paint. I’ve been experimenting with winter evergreens, trying out various color combinations and snow-laden clouds.

Oh, YES!
When we needed to repair the roof and part of the ceiling in our sunroom, I wanted the entire ceiling painted what I could only describe as “weak winter sky blue”. I searched until I found the perfect color and it is precisely the palest blue sky you have used, above, in the first painting.
The entire subject reminds me, though, of a time, living here in the South, when my children asked me about something I often said: “The sky looks like snow.” Having been raised in N. Missouri, I heard that statement many times in my life, but my children, always living down here, had never grasped what I meant. They would look up and expect to see drifts or flakes, when all I meant was it looked as if it might snow. So one afternoon, the oldest said, “Mom , the sky is gray. Snow is white. What do you mean!”
I still chuckle at that misunderstanding.
How perceptive of your eldest to be able to state the misperception! Thanks for sharing this story!
